It’s baaaaack!!! Get ready to get weird! The summer music festival that started its humble beginnings in Louisville, KY, back in 2002 is ready to throw down once again and is bigger and better than ever. Expecting to see over 65k people this year, there’s a few new changes and lots more excitement to go around for the next few days.
Whats different this year? The Bourbon Lodge, which started in 2012 with only four bourbons to sample has made it return and is spicing things up! They’ll be offering a variety of over 30 Kentucky bourbons. Members of Spoon, JJ Grey & Mofro and Spanish Gold have selected some of their favorited bourbons and will be at The Lodge serving it up! Libations will also be paired with special food creations by all-star chefs from Hammerheads, Game and Loop22.
What started it all and the main attraction for festival goers is the sound. McKnight, founder and musician himself, has been able to expand the musical diversity by partnering up with another music booking agency which has allowed the event to get to groups that haven’t played in years, get together and jam for a good cause. Outkast and The Replacements are a couple of prime examples and reason for fans ecastic attitude this time around. Along with many other musicians and groups (perhaps some not-so-well known to the average listener) the lineup never fails to WOW the audience.
Music, Art and Activism are the pillars that hold up Forecastle, and these three things are what made it the awe-inspiring event it is today and continue to flourish. It’s progressed from a one day free show in the park for local musicians and performers to a four stage arena with many international performers. Whether you attend for the sound of your favorite band, are supporting your local activism cause and great local art or simply to go people watch… There couldn’t be a more better weekend than this one right here.
If you’re like me and don’t want a good thing to end, don’t forget about the after after parties that will be situated close to the waterfront and catch some more of Moon Taxi, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, Mimosa, and much much more! The after shows will be rampant all weekend long. This will definitely be a year to remember. Go create some awesome new memories and be safe out there!!
