As Fashion week has begun, we will be keeping you updated on the latest trends for Spring/Summer 2014. Adrienne Todd and Erin Salay are at New York Fashion Week covering street style, fashion shows, and all things style on this blog, and our instagram; theoriginalchicgeek.
Erin Salay is a Louisville native, who is pursing her dream of becoming a model in New York. Here is an insider’s view of what it really takes to become a true New York model.
1.) How are you adjusting to NYC living? Where are you originally from & what prompted the move to NYC?
Erin: I like living in New York City. I moved here from Kentucky one year ago. NYC is one of those places that always impressed me. I realized that one way to reach happiness in life is to live out what impresses you so here I am…I made it from The Blue Grass to The Concrete Jungle.
2.) Has modeling always been something that you’ve been passionate about?
Erin: My mom was a model and she introduced me to modeling as a child. I really became passionate about modeling in the last few years though.
3.) What are your least & most favorite parts about the fashion industry & being a model?
Erin: My least favorite part is not getting explanations for rejection. It makes it difficult to pinpoint ways to improve when casting directors and agents do not communicate with you why you are not chosen for a shoot or for a show. My most favorite part is being a role model. I am really philanthropic and a goal of mine is to one day develop a non-profit.
4.) What do you enjoy most…runway or editorial?
Erin: I like a nice adrenaline rush so runway is my favorite. The audience is there watching and you may only be on the runway for less than a minute but the excitement at fashion shows is so intense. I love that.
5.) Are you signed with an agency?
Erin: I am represented by Parts Modeling Agency but I am currently freelancing.
6.) I’ve seen your growth over the past year. What makes you so persistent & motivated?
Erin: Seeing models that I know book campaigns motivates me. When I see a model I hang out with on a billboard, it reminds me I can get there too!
7.) What’s up next for Erin Salay?
Erin: You know, I am not sure…life is so unpredictable so we will have to find out the answer to that question together.
8.) Who are your favorite designers to work with/for?
Erin: I loved working with Christian Siriano. He actually came to Kentucky two years ago for a fashion show to benefit the Humane Society. I had the honor of wearing one of his finale gowns in that show. Christian Siriano is so professional and fun at the same time.
9.) In the beginning of the year, I posted a story on Angela Simmons & her amazing endeavors? How was it working for her & what are your thoughts on her new clothing line Angela by Angela Simmons?
Erin: It was a pleasure to work with Angela Simmons. During our photo shoot for shop.angelaiam.com she was there giving us lots of input about how she wanted us to model the clothes and what she wanted the site to feel like. It’s cool that several of the pieces in Angela by Angela Simmons are dressy sweats. I like looking dressed up even when I’m dressed down so I am looking forward to wearing her line.
10.) What is the best way to contact you if someone is interested in booking you?
Erin: For booking inquiries, my agent at Parts Models, Danielle Korwin, can be contacted by emailing email@example.com
